Community Service – Soup Kitchen

"Our Daily Bread" Soup Kitchen is a community service provided by Fresh Start through the generosity of our community. The soup kitchen is offered every Wednesday at 4:30pm.

Our Objectives

  • To provide a hot, full course, nutritious supper meal, once a week, free of charge to the community of Swift Current.
  • To share the love of Jesus with this community through food, friendship and hospitality.

Our History

Fresh Start served its first soup kitchen meal on November 20, 2007 in the Modern Family Restaurant banquet room. This was only possible due to the compassion and generosity of the Doulias family, owners/operators of this restaurant. For three years, soup kitchen guests continued to gather at this location to enjoy a warm sense of community and a wholesome meal. In November 2013, Fresh Start opened its doors at 214 1st Avenue NE, which is now home to soup kitchen guests. This initiative is entirely funded by the generous donations of individuals, businesses and service groups in our community. Fresh Start continues to provide this weekly service with an ever increasing number of dedicated volunteers.

Our Guests

Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen is available to anyone who would benefit from a hot, home cooked, nutritious meal.

Although the original intent of the soup kitchen was to provide meals to Fresh Start youth and their families, this service grew to attract a poor and marginalized demographic in Swift Current’s downtown core. Approximately 40 guests attend soup kitchen, and although the guests are not always the same, a distinct sense of comaraderie has evolved amongst them. The soup kitchen has become a gathering place that not only provides nourishment, but also companionship and a sense of belonging for our guests.
